The USS MISSOURI was chosen as the location for the surrender ceremonies. General Douglas MacArthur presided over as Commander-in-Chief of the Allied forces. After the signing of the instrument of surrender, a commemorative plaque was placed on the deck of the "Mighty Mo" with the following inscription: "It was at this place that the official instrument of surrender of Japan to the Allies was signed on September 2, 1945, which led to the end of World War II."
