In january 1958, the ground-to-air guided missile Nike Hercules went into operational use with the US Army. Its excellent performances proved that the threat posed by high-flying bombers could now effectively be countered with defensive systems. Max speed: Mach 3,65. Between 1957 and 1978 more than 25.550 guided missiles of the Hercules type were built.
